Investment Philosophy

Our investment style is to manage Portfolios in a conservative low-risk manner with an emphasis on broad diversification. Though, the actual briefs from clients range from ultra conservative to very aggressive.

We invest for long-term growth believing that, while markets may be preoccupied with short-term events, true value is most likely to be realized over a period of time. We seek to enhance value through a willingness to make investments, which ignore the prevailing consensus. We will, for example, exploit the opportunities, which arise when shot-term factors leads to the under-pricing of long–term value.

Kakawa’s investment philosophy will guide all investment decisions and direct all activities of the fund.

The guiding precepts are as follows:

  • Long-term Focus
Kakawa recognizes the long-term nature of the Plan’s liabilities and an appropriate investment program should have long-term assets and strategies, generally assumed to target a ten-year planning horizon.
  • Value-Driven
Kakawa has a preference for buying lower-priced assets as a less risky approach to investment management, but will maintain an appropriate exposure to attain growth to enhance portfolio diversification.
  • Relationship-Driven
Kakawa believes significant non-quantifiable benefits accrue to the Plan by fostering good long-term relations with the many service providers associated with the investment management program such as the Trustees, Custodians and other counter parties.
  • Opportunistic
Kakawa will react with flexibility and agility to take advantage of investments opportunities, that exhibit an above-market return opportunity, without compromising proper due diligence.
  • Contrarian
Kakawa is willing to be different from other advisors by considering investments, which are unconventional, or may not be the current consensus thinking, but hold potential for substantial return whilst still aligning with the investment guidelines of the Plan.
